I'm a big fan of avocados and eat them almost every day. Avocados are superfoods and great for a low-carb diet. One average avocado gives you 50% of your daily potassium, contains heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and is high in fibre.

They work great in both savoury and sweet meals because of their neutral taste. I already used avocados to make this dairy-free Mint Chocolate Chip Ice-Cream and it was a big success in my house! They add creamy texture and beautiful green colour without affecting the taste.

Ingredients (makes 6 popsicles)


  1. Halve the avocados and remove the seeds. Scoop the soft pulp into a bowl.

  2. Add the coconut milk, fresh lime peel and juice, powdered Erythritol and stevia. Low-Carb Key Lime Popsicles
  3. Using a hand blender, pulse until smooth. Low-Carb Key Lime Popsicles
  4. Using a spoon, fill in the popsicle molds. Low-Carb Key Lime Popsicles
  5. Insert a wooden stick into each of them and place in the freezer for at least 3-4 hours or until frozen. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Low-Carb Key Lime Popsicles

Can I use Swerve Powered instead of your other powered sweetener?

Absolutely! I just added this option for clarification.

4g of erythriton have 4g of carbohydrate you ask for 80g . I'm getting 13g per serving of carbohydrate just from sweetener. Is my counting wrong?

Just wondering if when you refer to limes are you talking about key limes or regular limes? A bit of a size difference there 😊

Good point - I guess this depends on your palate. Too much lime zest would make it bitter - I used "regular" limes 😊

Would this work with berries such as raspberries or strawberries instead of lime?

These are FANTASTIC!

Hi there, wow, thanks for all the great recipes. I'd like to know why you add both Erythritol and Stevia to most of your ice-cream recipes? Are they not basically the same? I don't like Stevia, can I substitute the Erythoril and Stevia with Xylitol? Thank you.

Hi Marick, thank you! I do that with other ingredients too (nut and seed flours, sweeteners, etc.). I mix ingredients to "hide" the aftertaste some of them have or to reduce the carbs in them.
For example, pure stevia may give the ice-cream a slightly bitter aftertaste, especially if I use too much of it and that's why I add Erythritol too. I only use just stevia (stevia drops are the best IMHO) if the recipe doesn't require too many added sweeteners and there is no risk of bitter aftertaste. If, on the other hand, I use just Erythritol, it may be higher in carbs (Erythritol is not completely carbs-free although it's pretty low). You can use Xylitol too. The reason I don't use Xylitol is that I experienced digestive issues even with small amounts and it also affects blood sugar. So glad I tried avocado in this recipe. I thought it would give it a weird taste but I was wrong, it's just creamy and delicious! I don't have popsicle molds so I used my ice-cream maker and keep it in small containers, just for portion control :-D
